Review: RadLab is a Game Changer

Totally Rad’s new RadLab simplifies photo editing while enhancing creativity.

I have been a huge fan of Totally Rad’s Photoshop Actions and Lightroom Presets for a long time. The team over at Totally Rad have a way of creating easy to use products that enhance photographic creativity, yet are simple and elegant to use.

The Learning Curve Flattened

I’ve been a Photoshop user for well over a decade. It is a fantastic tool and there are many reasons it is the industry standard. The breadth and width of Photoshop software is mind boggling. Take any 10 people and ask them to preform a task in Photoshop, and you’ll likely see 10 unique ways of approaching the task. I’ve often said Photoshop has a learning curve so steep it leans out over you, like a rock overhang.

How to Elevate Your Snapshots With Adobe Lightroom Presets

How a Good Book REALLY Can Save the Day

I received Window Seat, The Art of Digital Photography & Creative Thinking by Julieanne Kost, as a gift a couple of years ago. Periodically I’ll pull it off the shelf and browse, think, dream and ruminate my way through it. Ms. Kost is a trainer for Adobe Photoshop software and brings a unique perspective to photography. Yet she found a way to indulge her creativity as she soars through the air. It is her view from….the window seat.

Camera RAW vs JPG

Or, How Someone Else Explains Things Better Than I Do

A lot of people want to better understand the differences or potential benefits between shooting in camera RAW as opposed to JPG.  There are a great many people who put their foot down firmly on one side or the other of this debate.  I’ve seen arguments get heated in certain forums, with each side claiming the high ground.

Me?  I shoot RAW.  Why?  Because I like to endlessly tweak things.  I come from a background of printing ‘old school’ and really like to get my hands in it and mess it around a bit.  Then maybe change my mind, erase it all and start again….and again.  RAW allows that freedom.  I also find JPGs to be more ‘contrasty’, both tending to blow out my highlights and block up my shadows.  Dude, if anyone is gonna block my shadows, it better be me.[…]
