The person whose URL was linked to an interior design and 3D modeling service…..whatever that may be. In any event, this clearly brilliant fart knocker marketing expert wrote:

“Its like you read my thoughts! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I feel that you could do with a few % to drive the message house a little bit, however other than that, this is wonderful blog. A fantastic read. I will definitely be back.”

If only I could figure out to get a “few % to drive the message house”.

Wow. It’s as if they almost speak English. It doesn’t sound at all like they outsourced that little part of their world-domination-marketing-plan or possibly spoke into a voice synthesizer type of apparatus, like say……SIRI or anything. Not that I’m trying to drive home a point.

Yeah. Ahem. Not so much.

Dead Women: The New Porn

Photographs That Disturb Me

There is a rather famous quote that goes something like this, “Opinions are like a**holes…everybody’s got one.”

Without further ado, here’s mine.

I don’t like photographs that depict women as dead.

Especially FASHION photos.

As a matter of fact, they make my blood boil. It further infuriates and confounds me that women go along with this most blatant example of obvious misogyny by either posing for the photographs OR by creating these images themselves.

It seems, at least in fashion and certain parts of India, that the only thing better than a super skinny, barely post pubescent female is a DEAD female.

Disclaimers and caveats.

The two photographs I am featuring in this post were taken by a young, female photographer that I greatly admire. Her name is Zhang Jingna and you can find her website here. She has incredible lighting skills and unique visual ideas. I follow her on Flickr and do not intend to stop.

I am not singling her out. She is but one in a sea of photographers and models who participate in this genre –  Guy Bourdin and Izima Kaoru spring to mind. Nor am I suggesting that Ms. Jingna is in any way responsible for the fate of young women, or anyone else for that matter. Her photographs merely illustrate my point.

Studio Lighting for Dolls and Other Small Objects

Interview with Kenya Mason

Phenomenal lighting from the tiniest of studios…and perhaps the beginning of a new interview series.

I love Flickr. It is one of my favorite avoid-what-I-really-need-to-be-doing distractions.

I love great lighting too, and get really excited when I see well lit, carefully crafted images.

Insomnia can be your friend.

Occasionally sleep eludes me and I seek the solace of beautiful imagery.

That was a really poetic way to say when I’m whacked out of my mind due to not being able to sleep, I wander the house in a daze late into the night and in between peeping thru the neighbor’s windows and shooting cheese down my gullet from an aerosol can, I do a little web surfing.

It was just such an occasional in which I stumbled across the Flickr photo stream of one Kenya Mason aka aneky43251.

Perhaps I should start a new series…..

“Rattling informative and superb complex body part of content, now that’s user pleasant.”

User pleasant.

Consider it added to my vernacular.
